The format

Sport not Comptition

Hunting for true XC hounds

  • The fox (a guide) prepares to fly free and gives the hounds his take off site and launch time. His aim is to stay free and fly for as long as possible and for as far as possible before going to earth.
  • The Master of hounds leads a review of the weather conditions and the route the fox might take.
  • Everyone meets up on launch. The master of hounds and the fox decide whether to go for an air or ground start. Everyone checks radios.
  • Whichever start is called the hunters cannot chase the fox until the Master gives the tallyho. The fox is given an agreed lead time. (5 to 10 minutes).
  • During the hunt The Master will encourage the hounds.
  • The fox will leave a trail by giving his position at frequent intervals.
  • The Fox and the Master will give consideration to safe flying conditions and landing options.
  • The Fox is deemed caught by all hounds who land with him before he has packed away his kit.

Come and join us - We fly most days.
